2021 Race Review

2021 Race Review – 19th September

Having had to cancel our 2020 race due to Covid and reschedule our 2021 race from May to September it was great to welcome everyone to our 39th Stevington 12k race.

The weather conditions were a little overcast with an occasional spot of rain, but almost perfect for running.

Although the number of entries were down as compared to 2019, we were thrilled to discover that over 50% of the field of 117 who started the race, were running it for the first time which was fantastic for us.

We changed things a little for this race by not presenting medals to every finisher, but instead donating half the cost of medals to the Sue Ryder charity and the other half to the cost of a photographer who took some amazing photos for everyone to download. https://www.mehulvaitha.com/Events/Stevington12k-2021/

We also presented the following 7 trophies –

1st Male Club                                                                                Bedford & County AC

It takes a lot of effort from lots of people to make the race happen, and we are blessed with tremendous volunteers from within and outside of the village. Our volunteers marshal, drive the lead car, drive the sweeper car, keep the backup race times, register the runners, hand out numbers, put up the signage, take down the signage, bake cakes, sell cakes, sell the tea, coffee and sweets, manage the bag drop, run the bar, run the BBQ, set up the start and finish lines, hand out flyers, manage the water stations, set up the village hall and clear up afterwards, to name just some of the jobs!

Thank you to all the volunteers and runners who make the day so great. We are very grateful.

We will update this page to confirm the amount raised for Sue Ryder, but until the collection boxes are returned we can’t say for sure, but it will be over £140, for which I know they will be extremely grateful.

Our next race which will be our 40th, and will be held on Sunday 8th May 2022, so please add it to your diary.

Thanks all
